Obituary for Anna Ruth Hopkins

Anna Ruth Stanley Hopkins, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Lexington Country Place after an extended illness. She was born in Rockcastle County, KY on September 18, 1929 the daughter of C.E. and Lula Jane Owens Stanley. She was retired from the Rockcastle County School System and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon. She was a seamstress, an avid quilter, and an excellent gardener, who devoted her time and life to family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Jerry B. and Lucyann Hopkins of Center, TX; one daughter, Judy and Dr. Frank Glenn Marsh of Lexington; a devoted nephew, Michael E. Ritchie of Mt. Vernon; a devoted niece, Donna and Ronnie McClure of Mt. Vernon; a devoted nephew, Leo and Pat Hopkins of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, David and Athene Hopkins of Marshall, TX, Sarah and Galen Shea of Waco, TX, Hannah and Nathan Ramsey of Timpson, TX, Ann Marsh Harp and Jeff Townzen, John Marsh, and David Marsh, all of Lexington, and Frank and Mimi Marsh of Los Angeles, CA; seven great grandchildren, Leia Shea and Jerry Parker Shea of Waco, TX, Tristan Ramsey and Jordan Ramsey of Timpson, TX, Amanda Harp and Daniel Stamm of Columbus, OH, and Phi Ann Marsh and May Lynn Marsh, both of Los Angeles, CA. two great-great grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Anna May Stamm and Jacob Stamm, both of Columbus, OH; nieces, Darlene and Paul Adams, Kathy Hopkins Snowden, and Connie Hopkins and Mickey Ritchey, all of Lexington, Sue Hopkins Curry of Richmond, Joan Stanley Wise of Shepherdsville; nephews, Robert and Dottie Hopkins of Lexington, John R. and Susan Hopkins of Melbourne, FL, Joe and Anita Stanley of Berea, and Allen K. Stanley of Mt. Vernon; and her longtime physician, John Borders, MD of Lexington to whom she was most grateful for his excellent medical care.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Berl V. Hopkins; three brothers and their wives, Allen W. and Lois Hunt Stanley, Ernest K. and Juanita Saylor Stanley, and Charles A. Stanley; and one sister, Mary Emma Stanley and Earl Ritchie.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Lexington Country Place, especially the staff of “Anna’s Place” and newly made friends, Ms. Margaret Martin Moore and family and Ms. Eleanor Gilliatt, as well as the team from Hospice of the Bluegrass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Kentucky Baptist Children’s Home at 2313 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
